NEW RIVER VALLEY, Va. (WDBJ) – Virginia Techniques Gymnastics Training Center is celebrating 20 years serving children and their families in the New River Valley.

The local gymnastics training center offers classes for those who are just starting to walk through high level competitive gymnastics. They are also a NinjaZone training center, combining the sports of gymnastics and martial arts for local children up to the age of 13.

Many NCAA athletes have trained at Virginia Techniques throughout their gymnastics careers, including current University of Kentucky American gymnast Raena Worley.

“Gymnastics has been a big part of my life, from being a competitive gymnast myself to now a gym owner, head coach and parent of a competitive gymnast. Sharing my love and passion for gymnastics with local youth is something I have always wanted to accomplish. Seeing a child conquer the feat of rolling upside down or that smile when they first roll over, nothing compares to helping kids achieve their goals,” said gym owner Cheryl Johnson and head coach of the team.

Last summer, Virginia Techniques also expanded its facilities, nearly doubling the size of the gymnasium space. This expansion brought more equipment and space for athletes, including a dedicated area for each department, including the new NinjaZone.

“I’m just super proud that we can bring joy to kids, get them to achieve new things, get them to achieve goals, and I think that’s what keeps our business going and allows parents to bring their kids back. kids here because we can do things that are special for local kids and that keeps us going,” said Cheryl Johnson.

To celebrate its twentieth anniversary, Virginia Techniques will host a “20th Anniversary Open House Party” on Sunday, October 9, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The event is free to the public.

Children will have the chance to enjoy obstacle courses, inflatable games, snow cones, popcorn and more. In honor of twenty years, prizes will be awarded every twenty minutes for things such as passes to the open gym, clothing, recreational classes, and more.

Virginia Techniques is located at the back of the Gateway Plaza at 1550 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg.
