Sonora defeats Summerville 3-0 in a rivalry match | Sports

Summerville High School’s “Bear Cave” was packed Thursday for the first meeting between the Bears and the Sonora High Wildcats, who entered the game 4-0 in Mother Lode League play and left Bear Country 5 -0 behind stellar play from their outside hitters, winning the match in straight sets (25-17, 25-17, 25-11).

Although the Wildcats are one of the hottest teams in the entire Sac-Joaquin section — entering the game 13th in the MaxPreps standings — the Bears’ defense managed to blunt Sonora’s powerful offense. Summerville set the tone early, with solid blocks at net and digging near the back line.
