Simone Biles returns to gymnastics training with new trainer Laurent Landi

When 2016 Olympic gymnastics champion Simone Biles returns to full-time training in November, she will be coached by Laurent Landi, according to the Houston Chronicle. Laurent will be the team’s program director and his wife Cécile Landi will also help coach Biles and the women’s team at the World Champions Center in Spring, Texas.

“I have enjoyed my time away from training since the Olympics, but I am delighted to return to the gym and prepare for my return to competition,” said Biles. “The last year has been a chance for my mind and body to recover and I have taken advantage of many great opportunities since the Games. I look forward to working with Laurent and I am delighted to be back in competition mode with the eyes on Tokyo 2020. “

The Landis recently quit their jobs at WOGA, where they have coached many elite level gymnasts, including 2016 Olympian Madison Kocian and world champion Alyssa Baumann.

Biles told The Chronicle, “(Landi) was in Dallas, which is not far, and had recently left WOGA, and I had worked with him and I knew how he was with the athletes. He does a good job without it. leave the pressure on the athletes. You can see that some coaches are stressed, but not him. “

After being coached by Aimee Boorman her entire career, Biles is optimistic about the change.

“It will be a different technique and style,” she said. “But sometimes you need a change to see what you’re doing and continue your success. I hope we as partners will.”

Laurent is also enthusiastic about the new business.

“It is a great honor to have the opportunity to coach America’s most decorated gymnast,” said Laurent. “Cecile and I are delighted to start our work in the gym with Simone and look forward to expanding the gymnastics program at the World Champions Center.”

According to the article, the Biles family ultimately chose Laurent over another finalist after consulting with Rhonda Faehn, senior vice president of the USA Gymnastics Women’s Program.

“We are delighted to welcome Laurent and Cecil not only to prepare Simone for her return to competitive gymnastics, but also to help continue advancement at the World Champions Center,” said Nellie Biles, co-owner of the World Champions Center. “We think Laurent’s experience as an Olympic coach and gymnast himself, combined with Simone’s success and continued motivation, will be a great combination.”

Biles won four gold medals and one bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympics, including winning the all-around title. She has won ten gold medals at the world championships, the most won by a gymnast in history, and she is the first gymnast to win three consecutive world titles in the all-around. Biles is the first woman to win four gold medals at a single world championship since 1974 and accomplished it in consecutive competitions in 2014 and 2015.
