Hoda Kotb gave Team USA gymnasts an extra dose of luck in the beam finals on Tuesday.

While watching the Olympic action from the stands, the TODAY co-host put in a lot of energy as she clapped and waved a starry garment in the air. And it turns out that this lucky charm has quite a special meaning for the mother of two.

During an interview with the team on Tuesday morning, Hoda revealed that she was holding up a piece of her daughter Haley Joy’s wardrobe.

“So that’s what I was waving. It’s my daughter’s dress. She put it in my luggage for good luck, so I took her to the date and just started to dress her up. spin around and it gave me good luck for all of you, ”she explained.

The gymnasts then let out a collective “Aww” while listening to the sweet story.

Last week, Hoda shared a photo on Instagram of herself holding the pint-sized dress and captioned the post “When your daughter puts one of her dresses in your bag!”

During a conversation with her TODAY with Hoda & Jenna co-host Jenna Bush Hager, Hoda revealed that Haley also packed several other items of her own clothes to give her mother a taste of home, including a pair of cat socks and a pair of pajamas. .

While chatting with Team USA, Hoda’s maternal instinct definitely kicked in and she asked them if they had had the chance to eat something after their competition. When they said no and admitted they were hungry, Hoda intervened saying, “They are hungry, people, we need food!”

The entire US women’s gymnastics team – Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Grace McCallum, Jade Carey and MyKayla Skinner – were on hand and they discussed everything from their Olympic medals to the bonds they made while working. together. Biles also spoke about his decision to withdraw from several events.

“We are not just athletes or entertainment, we are also human and we have real emotions… it was not an easy decision,” she said.

Chiles agreed and supported her teammate.

“She’s been working for so long for this and she’s no coward… we all got closer,” she said.
