Friday game day has four teams in district action

Friday, January 28 is an action-packed game day with four teams locked in for district play.

Basketball takes on Pine Tree as district play continues for both teams, while football begins district play today.

Lady Cats basketball is first team on Friday, Jan. 28 at Pine Tree.

Coach Erica Delley’s side played a good game on Tuesday but couldn’t claim victory, losing to Marshall 48-41 on Tuesday.

Sulfur Springs hopes to stay in playoff contention with a win over the Lady Pirates, which would keep them within two games of Hallsville.

This game ends tonight at Longview at 6:15 p.m.

Coach Brandon Shaver’s Wildcats also face Pine Tree, but at home in SSHS Main Gym.

The men’s basketball team took the road victory Tuesday in Marshall, beating the Mavs 58-47 to tie Mount Pleasant for second at 5-2 in the district.

The Tigers currently hold the tiebreaker against Coach Shaver’s team following Mount Pleasant’s 53-51 win over the Wildcats on Tuesday, January 18.

Sulfur Springs is looking for a three game winning streak if they can beat Pine Tree at home today.

This match starts in the SSHS Main Gym tonight at 7 p.m.

Moving on to football, both teams begin district play tonight as they take on Longview. Both teams have a 7:15 a.m. tee time tonight as the real test begins.

Lady Cats football is at home this game day Friday, hosting Longview.

Coach Javier Aguayo’s team will host defending district champion Lady Lobos on Friday, January 28.

Women’s football scored three goals in the first half to secure a victory over North Lamar on Tuesday and finish its pre-season with a 3-6-2 record.

The Lady Cats are looking to extend their winning streak to two if they can start district play on the right foot with a victory over Longview.

This match starts tonight at Prim at 7:15 p.m.

Wildcats football also faces the Lobos, but at Longview.

Coach Alexi Upton’s side eliminated North Lamar 13-0 on Tuesday and will be hoping to win their second game in a row on Friday.

The win over the Panthers on Tuesday, January 24 gave men’s soccer its first victory of the season.

Tuesday’s win in Paris was the first in preseason (or out-of-district play) for Wildcats football.

They are struggling to face the Lobos at Longview on Friday, January 28 at 7:15 p.m.

Men’s soccer enters district play with a 1-9-2 season record.
