FAYETTEVILLE, Arche. – Arkansas Gymnastics Head Coach Mark Cook announced the addition of Katarina Derrick to the 2018 class on Friday. Derrick will join a freshman class that includes Amanda Elswick and Kennedy Hambrick.
Elswick and Hambrick join the 2018 class
Derrick comes to Arkansas from Pearland Gymnastics in Pearland, TX, where she has competed at level 10 since 2014. Last spring, she finished 12 in the top five in events, including an event title in vault, beam and on the ground.
Since 2017, Derrick has recorded seven full scores of 36,000 or more in eight competitions played. In her last competition of the 2018 spring campaign at the Brestyans Las Vegas Invitational, she set a career record of 9,650 in vault.
Derrick will join a Razorback team that will complete 17 of the 24 competing routines. Arkansas will look to replace two performances on vault and barre, while returning five of six performers to floor and beam. The Razorbacks finished last season as a team in 10th place at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis.
âAs soon as I set foot on campus, I knew Arkansas was the school I wanted to attend,â Derrick said. I always wanted to compete in College Gymnastics Division 1 and I only dreamed of participating in the SEC and when the opportunity arose I knew I had to grab it. I love the closeness of the team and look forward to being a part of the Razorback family.
