CENTER – The Center Police Department and Center Fire Department gathered at the Center High School Gymnasium to entertain the crowd and raise funds Sunday, May 8 for the victims of the recent Monte Vista Fire.
The game started off with a bang as CFD made their way to the gymnasium with lights and sirens full.
Team CPD and Team CFD were well matched, and the game was back and forth throughout.
In the dying minutes of the second half, CPD managed to put on the pressure, stealing the ball, causing turnovers and scoring in a mad dash to beat CFD 68-63.
According to CPD Chief Dale Meek, “The firefighters made it interesting, but they fell like a bacon-and-maple donut to the police!” We raised $500 and had a blast doing it. I appreciate our volunteers stepping in to help and thank you to everyone who showed up to support those affected by the Monte Vista fire.
The match was well attended by the Centre’s community, with more than 50 people present, not to mention the many volunteers.
Volunteers manned the donation table, concessions, officiated the game and cleaned the gymnasium. Thanks to generous donations of food, time and gym use, all money raised was donated with none needed to cover the costs of the event.
