Campaign partnerships: Barking & Dagenham Council leader visits Beam Park following 936 House partnership deal

Barking & Dagenham Council Leader Cllr Darren Rodwell visited Beam Park to see progress on the 3,000 home regeneration scheme currently approved following the 936 house partnership agreement signed by the Council of Barking and Dagenham with Countryside and L&Q in March. 2022.

The deal was crucial to speeding up the delivery of much-needed housing on the 72-acre regeneration of a former Ford manufacturing plant in east London into a vibrant new destination.

Cllr Rodwell visited one of London’s largest live construction sites at Beam Park, with 843 homes, a multi-faith center and medical center currently under construction in the first two phases of development, and 315 homes completed so far .

In one of the largest bulk housing acquisitions by any local authority, in March 2022 Barking and Dagenham Council acquired 936 homes in three future phases of Beam Park, 50% of which will be affordable housing and 50% market rental units. This deal was rewarded with the “PRS Deal of the Year” prize at the RESI Awards 2022 in May, which reward the realization of exemplary projects in the residential real estate sector.

Beam Park is one of only three regeneration schemes in London offering at least 3,000 homes and offering 50% high quality affordable housing (including condominium, London Living Rent and London Affordable rent housing) to meet the needs local communities.

When completed, Beam Park will have extensive facilities, including two schools, retail space, a gym, a nursery, a multi-faith center and two state-of-the-art energy centers. 44% of the development has been allocated to publicly accessible green space, which includes a 3.5 hectare central park at the heart of the development with the River Beam running through it.
