Alongside his doubles partner, Thanasi Kokkinakis, Kyrgios explains to those around him what happened in the locker room after their spectacular loss to the No.1 seeds.

Kyrgios tweeted this morning claiming that Croatian pair coach and trainer Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic wanted to fight him in the players’ gym after the Australians’ 7-6 (10-8) 6-3 victory.

And Wide World of Sports can reveal the moment the Australian stars emerged from the locker room to be greeted by their entourage.

Speaking on Nine’s Australian Open coverage this morning, Sam Groth revealed Kokkinakis texted him as the amazing chain of events unfolded.

Speaking on Nine’s Australian Open coverage this morning, Sam Groth revealed Kokkinakis texted him as the amazing chain of events unfolded.

“Thanasi actually messaged me as it was happening,” he said during Nine’s Australian Open coverage.

“He said Nick was accosted in the locker room by Pavic’s physical trainer. Obviously they weren’t very happy, the No.1 team in the world, the No.1 seeds falling to Thanasi and Nick and didn’t accept what was happening with the crowd, what was happening with Nick.

“I think it’s just a little soft to get him off the pitch and into the dressing room, and not even the players, from someone in the squad. It’s not necessary.”

Pavic and Mektic lost the first set 10-8 in a tiebreak before the Australians won the second set 6-3 to advance to the third round, much to the delight of the boisterous Kia Arena crowd.

“Everything went very fast, very strong,” Mektic said. “We barely survived yesterday just to fight another day. Looks like only the guys played very well. They’re a bad team to beat here and that’s it. We just fell short.
